    Unanswered: what is consistent gets

I am analyzing my SQL query performance and one of the attribute is
    "consistent gets".
    what's meaning of this term?

I checked online and one website defined as
"The number of blocks requested in consistent mode"
Does the block at here mean the 8k memory block oracle uses?
If so, does it mean "how many memory blocks this query requested from buffer"?

Also, I have two queries with produce the same result. Although the performance time for those two queries are very close, the difference between the consistent gets are large. Is there any reason why?
