    Unanswered: how to restart..

    Hello Oracle DBAs..
    I was trying out on backup and recovery .. for which I shutdown and startup in nomount from on session..and from otherwindow open other session and tried to startup the database and mount using alter datbase mount ..failed and again I've given shutdown immediate..
    and by mistake I closed both the windows while it was doing something..
    now.. I can start the database at all..What should I do..
    Please help me to resolve this..

    What OS are you running? What version of Oracle? What errors was it giving you when you were trying to start the database ???

    What happens when you try :
    startup pfile=xxxx

    If your recovry failed, you should be able to pick it up from the begining as you started it. The recovery needs your redo logs and rollback segments to be intact.

    What type of recovery you are testing? What are the ORA-xxxxx error messages you are getting and what are the commands you are using?

    Share some details, so one can understand your actions and give you an educated advice.
