Unanswered: Table Valued Functions : why?

I'm studying for the MCDBA test & understand table valued functions but am struggling to find a good use for them... can anyone explain to me why you'd want to use one over a view?

Table functions accept parameters, which views do not. Table functions are pre-compiled, while views are not (indexed views are the exception...).

For these reasons, I never use views any more for application development. Views can still be usefull in an OLAP environment to isolate the users from the database schema.
If it's not practically useful, then it's practically useless.
