    Unanswered: Oracle TAF

    Hi,
Can you tell me what I need to configure TAF enviroment in Oracle 8i and how to test it?
I have two instance and I want one instance to act as backup database.
If connection to first oprational database is lost then user is transparently reconnected to backup database.
    Thanks for your answers

You need to decide whether or not you are going to use "Failover" or "Replication" or some other means for keeping your databases in "sync".
With 8i, using failover, you get to failover, but it is not easy to "Fail Back Over" to the original master database (for what it's worth).

To get auto failover for the clients ... you must decide what method of "failover" you will use ... At this point, you need to read the manual to be able to make the determination and the different parameters you need to use or NOT use (ie, don't set global db name ... this disables TAF). You need to make changes to listener.ora ... ex: (came from the doc)

    sales.us.acme.com=
    (description=
    (load_balance=on)
    (failover=on)
    (address=
    (protocol=tcp)
    (host=sales1-server)
    (port=1521))
    (address=
    (protocol=tcp)
    (host=sales2-server)
    (port=1521))
    (connect_data=
    (service_name=sales.us.acme.com)
    (failover_mode=
    (type=select)
    (method=basic))))

    HTH and happy reading ...
    Gregg
