    Unanswered: Shutdown mysql, access denied.

I have mysql on redhat 9. I login with root and issue command:

    Mysqladmin shutdown

It says that access denied for root@localhost.

    How can I shutdown mysql?
    Thanks.

Have you set up a password for user root? If so you likely have to include that in your command for shutting down.

    Thanks.

I confused linux root with mysql root. Now I shut it down by using mysql password.
