    Unanswered: Ora-01034

    I have loaded Oracle 8i on a Windows XP pro machine using P4 proc.
    When trying to acces the database tables I get the message
    ORA-01034 Oracle not available

    The service is started and on Auto

    Also I have disabled the SYMCJIT.DLL so the installer will work
    After the instsall I nbow get a continuous pop up for a java.exe error
    asking me to close. It will not go away.

    Could this be a problem?

    Any suugestion

    // *Cause: Oracle was not started up. Possible causes include the following:
    // - The SGA requires more space than was allocated for it.
    // - The operating-system variable pointing to the instance is
    // improperly defined.
    // *Action: Refer to accompanying messages for possible causes and correct
    // the problem mentioned in the other messages.
    // If Oracle has been initialized, then on some operating systems,
    // verify that Oracle was linked correctly. See the platform
    // specific Oracle documentation.

    Are you sure the database is up ???
    What happens when you try and start the database with the INTERNAL account ???

    svrmgrl> set instance xxxx
    svrmgrl> connect internal/xxxxx@instancename
    svrmgrl> startup pfile=xxxx\initxxx.ora

    Check the registry LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE ...
    for ORACLEsidAUTOSTART = TRUE

    This entry will start the database when the service is started ...
