Our client is running SQL Server 8.00.194 on NT 4.0. One of the databases uses a simple recovery model and today experienced a problem whereby on issuing any SQL to update the instance appeared to hang with no error messages displayed. The problem was resolved by running sp_dboption with the trunc. log on chkpt option.
The question I have is why this was necessary. The Transaction log file was less than 50Mb and was set to grow automatically up to a maximum size of over 1Gb. Given that there was plenty of disk space to support this growth it is hard to understand why it did not extend.
Any advice to a relative newbie would be appreciated.
