    Unanswered: Import-export problem

    Hi,

    I try to import the table employees and departments from the schema HR into the schema willer.

    My export (Without problem) :

    c:\ exp parfile=exp_param.txt

    exp_param.txt :

    USERID=hr/hr04
    TABLES=(employees,departments)
    FILE=exp_one.dmp
    DIRECT=Y

    My import:

    import willer/willer04 tables=employees,departments rows=y file=exp_one.dmp

    I receive this message :

    IMP-0013: only a DBA can import a file exported by another DBA

    My user HR is not a DBA and my user willer nor.

    What is the problem with that ?

    Thank you for your response....

    HR user <> WILLER user
    You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
    The average person thinks he's above average!
    For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.

    Sorry but I don't understand.... How can I move these two tables from the user schema HR to schema user Willer without specifing the owner schema's UserID ?

    Oracle is enforcing security. Oracle precludes one user from accessing another
    user's data unless & until GRANTs have been issued. Only a DBA can diddle
    with data owned by another user.

    Assume the HR schema contained payroll data.
    Would it be OK for any John Q. LUSER who gets ahold of an export file
    to be allowed to import the HR data & see what everyone's salary is?

    I understand.... My problem is that I though that Export Import utilities worked like BCP in Sybase but we only have the data in a BCP file although we have the table structure and the datas into Export Import utilities.
    So I need to use this product only for a backup and recover purpose, isn't it ? But how can I transfert data between different servers (Test and production) if i need to retrieve one table from the production to the test?

    Thank you for your responses....

    In our shop we typically do our exp/imp with one secure user id but if you are using specific ones such as HR and WILLER you could grant WILLER imp_full_database (this could be temporarily done) and the following command should work:

    IMP willer/password file=yourfile.dmp log=yourlog.log fromuser=HR touser=WILLER tables=TABLE1,TABLE2

    Sincerely,
