Unhappy Unanswered: Subreport of more than one page causes formatting error

I have a report that has multiple subreports imbedded. When running this report when one of these subreports contains data that would normally overflow onto another page, I get the meesage on the status line "Formmatting page, press CTL+Break to stop" If I run the subreport on it's own it's OK because the data fits on the page as there is no "main report" header taking up room.

    Error message

The message is not an error message but a progress indicator. If you wait until the formating is complete your report should appear as a print preview or a printed report.

Yes, I have done this., but I think two hours is a little long to wait, (with still no output). If the data is contained in one page it's ok. The report is normally in Landscape, if I put it into Portrait it prints fine. I can't help feeling I have a property set wrong somewhere but have spent hours looking without success.
