Unanswered: Importing to 8i using 9i imp utility

I have a dmp file created a lot of time ago using Oracle 8.1.7.X exp utility.

I am importing it to a 8.1.7.3 server.

When I use 8.1.7.0.0 imp utility everything works great.

When I use 9.2.0.4 imp utility (imp system/manager@infra817 file=G:\bak\db\ora\tp41sp3\otal_tp41sp3p.dmp log=G:\bak\db\ora\tp41sp3\p.log full=y) (from the same machine (different home)) I get the following error:

    Import: Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Sun May 30 18:23:58 2004

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

Connected to: Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.3.0 - Production
    With the Partitioning option
    JServer Release 8.1.7.3.0 - Production

    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 942 encountered
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
IMP-00023: Import views not installed, please notify your DBA
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
    sqlplus system/manager@infra817 @G:\bak\db\ora\tp41sp3\update_sessions_INFRA817.sq l

As far as I understand, Oracle states 9i applications should be backward compatible, and therefore the above should work.

    Please help,

    Tal (tolier@mercury.com)

found the following in the metalink...
    1. Export the data with the Export utility of the lowest database version involved.
    2. Import the data with the Import utility of the target database.

    So where's the problem?

    1. Your target database is 8.1.7.
    2. You'd like to import data into it using IMP 9.2.0.
    3. Metalink says, "... use IMP of the TARGET database" -> see 1)

That is, if you use IMP 9.2.0. to import data into (target) 8.1.7. (which DOES NOT have views that IMP 9.2.0. uses during import session), the operation fails.

I'd say you should be happy with quoted sentence where everything is great
