    Unanswered: Can't create oracle 8i database

    Hi I am trying to create an oracle 8i database on Windows 2000 server. These are the steps I have taken
    1. Created the service using the oradim utility
    oradim -new -sid <name> -intpwd <password> -pfile <pfile>

    2. Trying to use the following script to create the database:
    CREATE DATABASE BIOTEST
    CONTROLFILE REUSE
    LOGFILE 'C:\oracle\oradata\BIOTEST\redo\redo01.log' SIZE 1M REUSE,
    'C:\oracle\oradata\BIOTEST\redo\redo02.log' SIZE 1M REUSE,
    'C:\oracle\oradata\BIOTEST\redo\redo03.log' SIZE 1M REUSE,
    'C:\oracle\oradata\BIOTEST\redo\redo04.log' SIZE 1M REUSE
    DATAFILE 'C:\oracle\oradata\BIOTEST\datafiles\system01.dbf' SIZE 10M REUSE
    AUTOEXTEND ON
    NEXT 10M MAXSIZE 200M
    ARCHIVELOG
    CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1
    NATIONAL CHARACTER SET UTF8;

    -- Create another (temporary) rollback segment in the system talbespace
    CREATE ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb_temp STORAGE (INITIAL 100 k NEXT 250 k);

    -- Alter temporary rollback segment online before proceding
    ALTER ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb_temp ONLINE;

    -- Create additional tablespaces ...
    -- RBS: For rollback segments
    -- USERs: Create user sets this as the default tablespace
    -- TEMP: Create user sets this as the temporary tablespace
    CREATE TABLESPACE rbs
    DATAFILE 'C:\oracle\oradata\BIOTEST\datafiles\rbs01.dbf' SIZE 5M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON
    NEXT 5M MAXSIZE 150M;
    CREATE TABLESPACE users
    DATAFILE 'C:\oracle\oradata\BIOTEST\datafiles\users01.dbf' SIZE 3M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON
    NEXT 5M MAXSIZE 150M;
    CREATE TABLESPACE temp
    DATAFILE 'C:\oracle\oradata\BIOTEST\datafiles\temp01.dbf' SIZE 2M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON
    NEXT 5M MAXSIZE 150M;

    -- Create rollback segments.
    CREATE ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb1 STORAGE(INITIAL 50K NEXT 250K)
    tablespace rbs;
    CREATE ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb2 STORAGE(INITIAL 50K NEXT 250K)
    tablespace rbs;
    CREATE ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb3 STORAGE(INITIAL 50K NEXT 250K)
    tablespace rbs;
    CREATE ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb4 STORAGE(INITIAL 50K NEXT 250K)
    tablespace rbs;

    -- Bring new rollback segments online and drop the temporary system one
    ALTER ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb1 ONLINE;
    ALTER ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb2 ONLINE;
    ALTER ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb3 ONLINE;
    ALTER ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb4 ONLINE;

    ALTER ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb_temp OFFLINE;
    DROP ROLLBACK SEGMENT rb_temp ;
    /

    But after I issue the create databse script, nothing happens. I have made sure that the service was creted. Infact once the script starts running, all the datafiles are creted too. But the cursor keeps blinking on the command line. Please help!

    After you have created the service ..
    run svrmgrl and try to mount the instance, create the database with the
    system tablespace and logfiles ... (I would try for more than 10m on the
    SYSTEM tablespace ... Depending on what you are doing, you may want to
    increase the logfiles or have redo groups ...):

    After this is created, then add the additional tablespaces, rollbacks, and
    run the system procs (CATALOG, etc ...)

    set echo on
    connect INTERNAL/password
    startup nomount pfile="C:\yourdirectory\yourinitfile.ora"
    CREATE DATABASE yourdatabasename
    LOGFILE 'C:\yourdirectory\redo01.log' SIZE 1024K,
    'C:\yourdirectory\redo02.log' SIZE 1024K,
    'C:\yourdirectory\STEVENS\redo03.log' SIZE 1024K
    MAXLOGFILES 32
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
    MAXLOGHISTORY 1
    DATAFILE 'C:\yourdirectory\system01.dbf' SIZE 264M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10m
    MAXDATAFILES 254
    MAXINSTANCES 1
    CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1
    NATIONAL CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1;
    set echo off
