We have an 11.5 Sybase database running on Sun and it is suddenly taking 100% of the CPU. The only errors we have seen are
00:00000:00001:2004/05/26 05:21:47.23 server Can't allocate space for object 'syslogs' in database 'master' because 'system' segmen
t is full/has no free extents. If you ran out of space in syslogs, dump the transaction log. Otherwise, use ALTER DATABASE or sp_ext
endsegment to increase size of the segment.
00:00000:00001:2004/05/26 05:21:47.23 server Error: 3619, Severity: 17, State: 1
00:00000:00001:2004/05/26 05:21:47.23 server Unable to write CHECKPOINT record in database 1 because the log is out of space.
We have truncated the log and the 100% of cpu utilization is still going on. We tried increasing the size of the master database, but got the following error:
1> alter database master
2> on master=5
Extending database by 0 pages on disk master
Msg 5006, Level 16, State 1:
Could not find enough space on disks to extend database master.
There is plenty of space on the physical disk, but the master device seems to be full. Is there an easy way to extend it without recreating the master device? Is this likely the result of the 100% CPU utilization?
