What does dBforums need?

A couple weeks ago we started the rebuilding process.

We've added active moderators, cleaned up spam, and addressed some technical concerns.

We're in the process of addressing some browsing issues, that we hope to have resolved by next week's end.

Is there anything that members would like to see added, removed, tweaked, or skewered?

Continuing probs on DBF....

Hi Dennis

I'm still getting problems with timeouts and lag etc.. Also - I posted on this thread: select current / most recent date but when you view on the forum the post is not registered (still listed as 0 replies) and the thread has not moved to the top of the forum (when sorted by last post DESC)

Cheers

Threads like this one are a terrific start Dennis!

We have been throwing some ideas around in the Access forum about FAQs, code banks etc however these are possible given current settings I believe. I am sure the odd thing has crossed my mind but they seem to have slipped it for now....

#1 needed feature: consistent response times, fewer database errors

and my earlier suggestion to offer a way to suppress usenet posts from getnew and getdaily searches

I'm sure someone else has already recorded, but can't find the posting

The front page today 08:55 shows a posting in the chitchat section form our friendly porn / model agency scammers which has beeen moderated & removed.

It looks as if its a there is a flaw in the current version of vBulletin, or possibly the indexes are tonkered.

whilst we are at it is it possible to rethink some or all of the icons used to identify postings. It may be old age credping up on me, or my tatty old monitor, but I find it hard to distinguish between some of the icons particularly the 'hot' threads and threads I have posted to - the little circle gets lost in the background of the orange dot.

That's what we're hoping will be fixed by next week's end.

Strange that it seems to be only that forum category. We'll have to get that sorted.

Well, just toss 'em in here when they find their way back.

Yes. This is a goal we are working towards.

I'm not sure. But, it sounds technologically possible. And, if it's possible, we'll get it done.

We've talked about a redesign. But, that brings up more questions. If we did update the design, would you prefer the same color scheme, style, etc?

Thanks for everyone's input.

Keep 'em coming!

This can be done now through your user control panel now.

Profile > Edit Options > Miscellaneous Options > Exclude Forums from "Get New Posts" > and choose the forums you want excluded.

Not sure if it does the getdaily. Let us know if it doesn't and we'll find a solution.

I'm with Healdy on this. I would hope that there is no need for a big commitee discussion on the shading options of the 260 different icons we should have that indicate every possible type of thread. Just altering the icon that indicates that you have posted in the thread and that it is popular would be plenty to my mind. I'm no where near as ancient and decrepid as Mark but I struggle with it too. Sometimes I even have to rely on my memory of the threads I have responded to (...this is the point at which I would have inserted the shocked smilee of old...).

One thing that did occur (contradicting myself above ) - would an icon\ flag that the original poster could activate indicating that the thread is now resolved be a possibility?

Okay. Pretty sure I can edit templates to exclude that for everyone. I can't think of a reason it would be needed.

I think we could sort this one out. Seems like it would be quite useful on a site like this.

sorry Dennis, it may be known as an Angel elsewhere, you may even be able to label it an Angel - but the Audaciuos one has already coined it as the "pooty".

As me old mucker Bernard Matthews may say "its poootifull"
