Suggestion: advertising banners NSFW

Dear administrators,

I think it would be a good idea to use more discretion in choosing advertising banners for the site. Many of us read (and contribute to) dbForums from their workplaces, and all these pop-up windows and weird sounds generated by the ads can be, how should I put it, frowned upon by our co-workers and managers...

I have nothing against ad banners as such, and sometimes I even click on them, but some of them may not be appropriate for more formal workplaces.

Thank you

Nick

yes, very well stated, and i will make sure the site owners do get the word

notice nobody took my complaint seriously, maybe because i did not make my point with the same rational explanation as the other esteemed gentleman from toronto here

or maybe because i posted it in Chit Chat rather than here in Suggestions and Feedback -- http://dbforums.com/showthread.php?t=1607366

Can someone show an example of such ads? I haven't seen any popups or heard any noise.

Oh BTW - just noticed something in your post - I have never experienced a popup at DBF.

And another banner. The little guy bottom middle is in full "helllooooooooo" which he does everytime your mouse rolls over him.

Same link as the banner above

try it here -- HellOOOOoooooooooooooo...

not as annoying as "Oh Behave" but still quite disturbing in the early morning while others are still asleep in the house...

REMEMBER, THESE THINGS NOT ONLY PLAY THEIR SOUND WHEN YOU ROLL OVER THEM, THEY ALSO DO IT ON PAGE LOAD

very, very disturbing

pretty close to making me reconsider whether i ever want to visit another inet site again

dennis, you're supposed to have an "in" with these people -- how come we haven't heard back from them on this issue??

Don't forget to whip your cursor over the banner as quick as possible for an echoey-chorus effect.

Now that is interesting - what browser do you use? I not get any sound on page load.

That advertiser has several different banners. It's kinda hard to take two down if we don't know what they are.

I have never seen them, after hundreds of refreshes.

Please, when someone sees one, right click on it and post the properties.

i've done better, i've actually captured them and placed them on my site, with links to them so you can see/hear them "in action" as it were

what did you mean by properties?

Hi

Hope this is useful.

this site:
http://www.onelook.com/?loc=rescb&lang=all&w=sinch

has the "Ha ha ha ha ha ha - oh behave" banner (sorry - I can't post the banner on a site ) BUT it is mute - you get the banner without the sound.

Is it me or are the banners now either silent or need to be actived?

Oh - wait - no I had my volume on mute.

Oh - wrong again - no I didn't.

Three whoops for Dennis:

Whoop!

Whoop!

Whoopeeee!

I still don't see one. And since no one's posted a URL that shows they're from our ad network, I have to assume that ya'll are pullin' my leg.
