Ow. Banner Ads
|
|
The new Flash ad from Pervasive (Btrieve) about taking a trip to the 80's now is seriously distracting and obnoxious. I have to scroll past it and get it off the window so I can read the posts. Can't do that on writing posts. I don't mind banner ads at all, they help pay the bills, but this one in particular is really awful.
Eventually, it sets off Websense for being an Ad and gets blocked, but only after 20 hits.

I had that advert for a full 24 hours (probably more) - it hurt my brain(s)!
There's nothing wrong with advertising but it shouldn't distract you so much!

is this the correct forum for providing feedback to the site owners? yes
have you made the concern clear and specific (rather than a rambling rant)? yes
do you expect the site owners to acknowledge this feedback, even if the response is something along the lines of "sorry, we have no control over the ads that are served" (which would not be believed, but at least it would be a response)? when do you suppose this response might be made?

The damn advert is back...
@Rudy... (silly) question... Who are the site owners? iNet?
And yes, a response, even if it was "We can't do anything about it" would be much appreciated - where would it come from/where would we fnd it etc etc etc.
Reson for edit: a rediculous spelling mistake.

I emailed Pervasive about their pervasive advertising, but I have not heard anything back.

FYI - this has been raised and answered in the mod forum. I won't copy & paste (softwarereview will no doubt respond personally if he feels the need).
The gist is the problem is recognised and will be "addressed shortly". I know no more.

There is a more serious technical problem with the banner adds, they are "on top" of the search and quick links drop down menus and make using the choices on these two menus impossible.

Please note that the SEARCH functionality no longer works in FireFox. When I click SEARCH, the search box displays BEHIND the brightly glowing ad, making the SEARCH function inoperable.

That's not a Z index thing, is it?
I've seen similar bugs in the past, but only when using IE, not in FF.
and search is not "inoperable" just harder to get at
EDIT: Yep, it's not right for me in IE7!

My bad. What I mean is that it is impossible to use effectively. When it drops down, the only thing you can do is click the Go button, which comes back with zero results.
A search is useless if there is no search criteria.
Does anyone have an alternate site I can go to, to get my database answers?
~Le
Ps. I ask because not being able to search seriously limits this site's usability. Being able to Search for an answer is as critical as posting a question.

yes, there are several, very good ones, too
however, seeing as i am a moderator on this site, it would be unseemly for me to suggest them here

Alternatively you can just link to the search in your favourites?

If someone sees that banner after 48 hours, please let me know.
As for search, the normal search function is still here. http://www.dbforums.com/search.php
The google search is always a good alternative though.

Dennis, that banner is still appearing, I just saw it twice. Not sure what is up, but it's been more than 48 hours.
