Resolution status suggestion

Reposting for Sam Landy in This thread:
Quote:
Hi,

Is it possible to add a new flag to the forum, to be visible on the forum's front page? The purpose would be for the person who opened each thread to declare to the world, "I no longer need help in this matter." Of course, no one else would have access to the flag, and people should be encouraged to use it.

Setting the flag would not prohibit further discussion.

I find it disconcerting to browse through a large thread, where the problem is solved at the bottom of page 2, but discussion continues through page 4.

Thanks for allowing me to sound off.

Sam

All things are possible. But all possibilities are not met.

What's anyone else think of this suggestion?

Mark threads as resolved?

I agree with part of the principal.
You should be able to "highlight" the "accepted solution", but not lock the thread for further posting.

In fact, if you've ever seen how experts-exchange ( ) works, then that's how I'd prefer to see it.

Great but I have never seen this implemented consistently across the majority of threads at any of the other forums I use. The exception to the rule is experts-exchange but the whole concept revolves around people paying to ask questions and "experts" competing for points so it is very heavily moderated by paid employees.

George, that forum stinks! For the simple fact that they will not even allow a guest to even view the threads without first becoming a member. This is something that was recently done within the past year.

Having to join a forum without first seeing what the content is like is a waste of time IMHO.

As a matter of principle, I have never joined experts-exchange for that reason aside from having to dodge all of their advertisments and popups.

Actually Frank...
due to google regulations; anything that shows up in a search has to be viewable to the public... Check out googles cached versions of the page and there's your solution!

Try it and see: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...ange.com&meta=

I never said I like the site, I just liked the highlighting of solutions.
I am not a member.

Can I also point out that while the OP just wants an answer to his question he is posting it on a public forum. Most of us are quite happy to help out with others problems but it is also fun discussing ideas etc.

If the OP wants a short concise answer that's just for his needs then it may well be worth paying a consultant to give them that answer. Of course if the OP says "thanks that's solved my problem" then they are under no obligation to continue replying or reading in the thread.

Mike

PS I can't stand that experts exchange site - it always shows up in google and using the cache is a pain.

That site makes me laugh...

"Sorry expert, no points for you this time, you were too slow with your answer"
