What happened to usenet?

This whole section's gone dead because links to it no longer exist.

A decision was taken back in September 2007 on Usenet. It was decided to remove Usenet for several reasons.
the volume of posts there was causing difficulties for iNET
the content is available elsewhere, through other access points
the content wasn't especially significant or relevant to dbForums, it was felt it included more than average RFH's
it was taking up a significant amont of moderator time to cull the crud, the spam and the porn.

...at least that was my understanding of the thought process.

AFAIK you are just about the first person to come back on USENET and it was deleted a while ago

Thanks Healdem. I made three innocuous posts many years ago just to get me access to comp.databases.pick. I wondered what happened.

I've just been informed by one the old regulars that Google has picked it up. http://groups.google.com/group/comp....es.pick/topics

Google is into everything. Have you ever played with their 3D Sketchup? Pretty cool.

What be this 3d sketchup you speak of?

And when you have the amount of revenue that Google does, you can pretty much do anything you want
