dump database while db is in restoring mode

Hello everyone,
I am not using sybase very much but in my company we have sybase 11.9.2 and here i can see that we have nightly backup runs and creates dump file for those databases who are in restoring mode.
In sql server you cant backup db if its in restoring mode but in sybase i m not sure. Can you please tell me is this possible or I am looking at some different files?
