trade off of locking scheme modification

Hi,

We modified massively the lock scheme of more than 400 tables from 'All Pages' to 'Data Only Lock' and the system got quickly strangled by I/O overload.
Is thare a link between this new locking scheme and the number of I/O on the disk ?
Sybase 12.5.4 on Unix Log and Data on same discs

Haven't experienced this myself but guess that now that the process is no longer in lock wait it can do the I/O.
