when i try to install Sybase 12.5 ASE on HP 9000 Rp series HP 11i
Installing is done normally. But when i try to run "srvbuildres -r as.rs"
it gives eroor message..as i dont have X windows , only Ascill terminal..
Using ./install -c option..

the message is
creating directory entries..
directory entries done..
creating master database
sh : 6035(this no changing if i try other time )
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Unresolved symbol: __head from /usr/lib/libc3
failed to create master database..

this is just a test installation on the new server..

may be somewhere i am missing something like setting shared memory or sybase user permissions or environmental variable?

The same thing happen to me on a HP9000. What I did was install the EBF file update ASE 12.5.0.3. This unresolved symbol error is a bug and was fixed with the patch 12.5.0.1 but the last update right now is 12.5.0.3 so you just have to download it from the sybase site. Once it is updated you can build your server with srvbuildres

Also verify that the HP-UX have the patches prerequisite that is describe on the release bulletin for ASE 12.5.

Tip or Workaround:
CR 235062 ASE 12 server could not be started in HP box if C++ patch PHSS_22543 Adaptive Server fails to start after the HP patch PHSS_22543 for the HP C++ compiler has been installed. Patch number PHSS_22543 has been superseded by PHSS_24627.

Workaround: Remove the patch at the o/s level.

Resolution:
CR 235062 ASE 12 server could not be started in HP box if C++ patch PHSS_22543 Adaptive Server fails to start after the HP patch PHSS_22543 for the HP C++ compiler has been installed.
