Need to develop a utility to zip the files in specific dir

Hi All,
I have a tiresome work,manually zipping the files under a dir which are larger in size.I want to wrote a script which will filter the files which are larger than the specified limit and zip them using gzip command.

Any suggestion pls????

ls -l $MYDIR|awk '{if ($5 > int(maxsz)) print $9;}' maxsz=$MAXSZ|xargs gzip
