connecting to a database and running a query file

I know the command to connect to a database in unix shell script is like this
sqlplus @USERNAME/@PASSWORD @HOSTNAME however I don't know how to get the query file to run, can anyone help me out with this?

Actually if it's oracle database, it should be like this:

sqlplus USERNAME/PASSWORD@DBNAME @MYQUERY.sql
