Array

I would like to read the output of the command below to an ARRAY:

grep :/employee emp.lst | awk -F":" '{ print $1}'

The output is like
A
B
C
D
E
F

I don't know how to do that? Any help?

Try this

echo "A:B:C:E:F" > emp.lst
cat emp.lst | awk ' BEGIN {FS="|"}
{
split ($1,arr,":")
print arr[1]
print arr[2]
print arr[3]
print arr[4]
print arr[5]
}
