getting Farsi from an Oracle db via ADO or RDO in VB6

I need to export Farsi data from an Oracle DB via an ADODB or RDO connection.

When I try this the data is displayed as reversed question marks.

I know the data is in the DB is in Farsi as the Oracle tools show it and I can import data in Farsi.

inspecting the recordset just after executing the query shows the data has been corrupted. e.g. "؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟"

Has anyone any experience of this kind of issue?
